France Télévisions needed an end-to-end solution to provide French Open tennis fans an online high definition (HD) viewing experience. It chose to partner with Microsoft, Inlet Technologies and Level 3 Communications to deliver the first live HD Microsoft® Smooth Streaming public event in the world. The combination of using the Level 3® Network, Smooth Streaming and the latest encoding technology allowed online viewers to experience the French Open in true HD with minimal interruptions. The improved end user experience resulted in longer viewing times and Smooth Streaming being used in broadcast sporting events worldwide.
