Company Provides Service in 65 Markets Globally

BROOMFIELD, Colo., March 27, 2001 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) today announced it is now offering Internet and communications services in Pittsburgh and Princeton. With this announcement, the company now operates 68 advanced Gateway data centers in 65 markets; 54 markets in the U.S., nine in Europe and two in Asia. "The Gateway facilities in these important markets provide an on-ramp to the Level 3 Network, which is unlike any communications backbone ever built," said Carlos Lopez-Abadia, senior vice president of Global Gateway Services for Level 3. "By providing communications intensive companies in these markets with access to our metropolitan and intercity networks worldwide, they will be able to leverage the price performance improvements made possible by our continuously upgradeable network design."

These Gateway data centers serve as portals to the Level 3 Network and provide a secure environment in which customers can physically locate their equipment. The facilities also house Level 3's own equipment and offer customers interconnection with the public Internet and other long distance networks. Level 3's continuously upgradeable network features advanced technology that provides high-quality, low-cost services that enable communications intensive businesses to add value and, in turn, deliver their services to end-users including residential customers. Level 3 enables these companies to grow more rapidly by providing infrastructure and network services to help them meet increasing demand for e-commerce, streaming audio and video, and many other Web-based services.

Level 3 will initially offer the full range of its (3)Link Global Transport Services in these new markets, including (3)Link Private Line, (3)Link Dark Fiber and (3)Link Global Wavelength. Level 3 will also offer its (3)Connect Modem service in both markets by the end of this quarter.
