Level 3 Announces 15-Year Lease With Lehman Brothers in Manhattan

Lehman Leases More Than 50,000 Square Feet At Level 3 Data Center

BROOMFIELD, Colo., December 17, 2001 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) announced today that it has signed a 15-year lease agreement to provide data center space to Lehman Brothers, the global investment banking firm.

Lehman Brothers has leased more than 50,000 square feet at one of Level 3's data centers in Manhattan. Lehman will use the space to enhance its internal data network and other operating systems.

"Lehman is one of the world's premier financial institutions," said Kevin O'Hara, Level 3's president and chief operating officer. "Lehman's decision to choose Level 3 now gives us an anchor tenant at this facility. This agreement is further testament to the breadth and quality of our network infrastructure."

Level 3's advanced data centers are connected to the company's global network in major markets around the world. They serve as portals to the network and provide a secure environment in which customers can physically locate their equipment. The facilities also house Level 3's own equipment and offer customers interconnection with the public Internet and other communications networks.

In the New York metropolitan area, Level 3 has eight advanced data centers with more than 750,000 square feet of technical space.
